About
Southern Theatre Guide is for curious theatregoers who want more than a plot summary. We examine how scripts, performers, stages and audience conventions shape a live event, without pretending there is one correct way to watch.
What we look at
Our coverage moves between plays, performance, stagecraft, theatre history and the experience of attending. That can mean examining how a pause alters a line, comparing audience layouts, or asking what a programme tells you and what it leaves out. We favour questions a reader can take into a theatre, script or conversation.
Who it is for
This is for first-time visitors, regular theatregoers and anyone who wants to pay closer attention without needing specialist vocabulary. We explain terms when they help, and leave them out when they do not. Theatre can be admired and questioned at the same time.
Our approach
We separate observation from interpretation and avoid treating a single production or convention as the whole story. Where there are genuine trade-offs, we name them. Our aim is not to tell readers what to think, but to give them sharper questions to bring to the work.
